The Medinah Shriners Experience
Being a Medinah Shriner is about more than just membership—it’s about being part of a fraternal organization that values fellowship, family, and service above all else. Our members come from all backgrounds and walks of life, united by a desire to help others and make a positive impact in the world.
A Place for Everyone
At Medinah, we believe that every Noble brings something special to our temple. Whether you’re interested in philanthropy, social events, or leadership, you’ll find opportunities to grow, serve, and have fun. Our temple is a place where traditions are honored, new ideas are welcomed, and every member is valued.
Supporting Children and Families
Our commitment to Shriners Hospitals for Children is at the core of everything we do. Through our fundraising efforts, volunteer work, and community outreach, we help ensure that every child receives the care they need, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. This mission unites us as Nobles and inspires us to give our best every day.

Clubs, Units, and Committees: An Overview
One of the greatest strengths of the Shriners is the diversity and vibrancy of our clubs, units, and committees. These groups are the heart of our organization, providing opportunities for members to connect, serve, and have fun together.
Clubs
Shriners clubs are social and service-oriented groups that bring together members with shared interests. Whether you’re passionate about classic cars, motorcycles, music, or community service, there’s a club for you. Clubs are a great way to meet new friends, develop your skills, and give back to the community.
Units
Units are the action teams of the Shrine, often participating in parades, public events, and ceremonial functions. From the famous Medinah Motor Corps to the Clown Unit and the Legion of Honor, our units are known throughout Chicago and Illinois for their energy, creativity, and commitment to fun. Units provide a unique way to represent the Shrine in the city and beyond, while also supporting our mission of philanthropy and relief.
Committees
Our committees are the backbone of our temple’s operations, handling everything from event planning and fundraising to membership development and hospital outreach. Committees offer members the chance to take on leadership roles, contribute their talents, and help shape the future of Medinah Shriners.
The Value of Participation
Getting involved in a club, unit, or committee is one of the best ways to make the most of your membership. These groups foster a sense of fellowship, provide opportunities for personal growth, and allow you to make a real difference in the lives of children and families. Whether you’re a new member or a seasoned Noble, there’s always a place for you to serve, lead, and have fun.

About the Shriners: A Short Summary
The Shriners are a renowned international fraternity of men dedicated to fellowship, philanthropy, and fun. Officially known as the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, this organization is built on a foundation of Masonic values and a commitment to making a difference in the world. With nearly 200 chapters (or temples) across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and beyond, the Shriners are known for their iconic red fezzes, their vibrant social life, and their unwavering support for Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Since the first shrine was established in New York City in 1872, the Shriners have grown into a great body of Nobles who serve their communities and provide relief to those in need. Our mission is simple: to care for children, support our members, and create a place where fun, fellowship, and family come together. At Medinah, based in Addison, Illinois, we are proud to continue this ancient tradition, serving the city of Chicago and the greater Illinois area with passion and purpose.

How to Become a Shriner
Becoming a Shriner is a journey that begins with a desire to serve, to grow, and to be part of something truly special. If you’re a Master Mason in good standing, you’re eligible to join the Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and become part of a new fraternity that is both historic and forward-thinking.
The Path to Membership
Start as a Mason
The first step is to become a Mason. The Masonic fraternity is the world’s oldest and largest, built on principles of brotherhood, charity, and personal development. If you’re not yet a Mason, we can help guide you through the process of joining a local city masonic lodge.
Express Your Interest
Once you are a Master Mason, let us know you’re interested in joining the Shriners. Our membership committee will connect with you, answer your questions, and invite you to attend a meeting or event at our temple in Addison.
Complete the Rite
To become a Shriner, you’ll participate in a special rite, a ceremonial initiation that welcomes you into the Order Nobles Mystic Shrine. This is a memorable experience, rich in tradition and symbolism, marking your entry into a new body of men dedicated to fellowship masonic and philanthropy.
Get Involved
As a new Noble, you’ll have the opportunity to join one or more of our many clubs, units, and committees. Whether your interests lie in community service, parade participation, or social activities, there’s a place for you at Medinah.
