The Medinah Shrine Clowns were founded in
1949 as part of the Northwest Suburban Shrine Club, and were
formally activated as a Medinah Unit in July of 1963. Each member of the group has a
unique physical
appearance, and many develop "gimmicks" and skills for the entertainment of
their audiences,
with most members skilled in "baloonology"- or the art of making various figures
from balloons.
Members of the Medinah Clowns perform as many
as 100 times a year before audiences at the
Shriners Hospital for Children®, as well as in many parades, parties and various other
occasions.
